Common and Preferred Stock

What are stocks? Stocks include common and preferred. With common stock you own shares directly in a company and benefit when the company grows and makes a profit. With preferred stock you take less risk than common stock because the preferred stock dividends are guaranteed and in a bankruptcy you have preference over the common stock holders. However preferred stockholders share prices rise much more slowly than common stock and the dividend with preferred stock generally stays the same.
